How A Rookie Copywriter Landed Two A-Level Clients in 6 Months

“My life was turned upside down…”
Nicole had just taken out a massive loan to buy a house.
The next day, she was laid off from her job.
She needed to find a way to pay her mortgage and support her son.
At first, Nicole thought she’d get another job in the same industry. But after going to interviews, she realized her heart wasn’t in it.
What excited her more was copywriting.
She had spent the past few months learning to copywriting on her own. And decided to try and make a career out of it. As she says:
“I always dreamed of being a writer but wasn’t sure I could make a decent living from it…
After getting laid off, I decided to pour myself into copywriting for a year to see if I could make it work.”

“I was starting from scratch…”
Nicole was excited but scared.
She had 29 years of experience developing brands. But people in the direct-response copywriting world told her “branding and direct response copywriting don’t mix.”
So she felt like all of her prior experience meant nothing.
On top of that, she had no clue how to get clients.
So she took copywriting courses to sharpen her skills. And though they improved her copy skills, they didn’t help her land clients or grow a freelance business.
“I didn’t know how to get clients and figured I’d have to cold call people.”

Ten months into her training, Nicole went to a copywriting Bootcamp.
There, she met Kevin Rogers. And began to learn about his program for becoming a successful freelance copywriter called Real Free Life.

Within three weeks of joining Real Free Life, something happened that changed Nicole’s career for good.

“A copywriter was looking for feedback on his copy. He had already gotten a lot of great feedback and I wasn’t sure I could add much more.
But one thing I noticed was the copy didn’t match the brand he was writing for. I gave the writer a few examples of what I meant.
Kevin saw it and said ‘Nicole, that was great feedback. See how no one else saw that but you did? You just found your Bat Signal.”
It was an exciting moment!
This meant she didn’t have to leave behind her 29 years of experience. Instead, she could become known as a branding copywriter. And use her knowledge in that area to stand out and attract quality clients.

“I’ve been working non-stop ever since…”
Now that she had her Bat Signal, it was time to become more well-known.
So she used the “Authority Ladder” taught in the course. And began to publish content that would get people to know and respect her.
She posted articles on her own site as well as Copy Chief and on LinkedIn. She even did a podcast with Kevin.
Real Free Life also taught Nicole how to start getting clients by creating a lead magnet. This caused clients to start coming after her.
“Kevin taught me how to differentiate myself, stand out, and build a business. It’s not about getting one-off copy projects, it’s about becoming an authority and being well-known.”

Soon, the jobs came pouring in.
Clients came to her through her lead magnet, referrals from Kevin, as well as the Copy Chief Job Board.
After six months of this, her business exploded.
Through Kevin and the Copy Chief forum, she landed two steady gigs: Including a job with one of the largest natural health companies in the industry.
“I landed two major clients within a day of each other. And I’ve been working non-stop ever since.”

An A-List Copywriter reached out to Nicole…
